Laura's favorite of her own books was probably the first, "Little House in the Big Woods." This book incorporated many of the stories her Pa told her and her older sister Mary when they were little. Laura noted that this book was really a memorial to her father, with whom she was always very close, and whose stories, she felt, were too good to be lost. She intended this to be her only book, but mountains of letters from schoolccildren all over the world, all asking, "what happened next?" led Laura to write seven more volumes.
