Unfortunately, Lorenzo Odone passed away in 2008 at the age of 30 from pneumonia, which was a complication of his adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). There is currently no cure for ALD, but research is ongoing to find treatments to manage the disease and improve quality of life for those affected.
The Polish biochemist helped them realize that erucic acid was an important element that needed to be used in their oil. However, he also told them that nobody would help them work with it, because the risk factor is too great. He tells them that erucic acid can causes cardiac problems, cholesterol deposits in the adrenal gland, and damage to the reproductive system. check the scene out on youtube here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66OKZGeLncs&feature=PlayList&p=B5FB1549DC66C593&index=9
The paper clips in lorenzo's oil are used to represent the long chain fatty acids (the c-26's i believe). the other clips are used to show the bad acids in lorenzos blood.Augusto tries to use them to figure out why, when one increases, the other decreases. he finds out that they are from the same enzyme, so the enzyme will create the same amount either way, but the increase of one will decrease the other. i.e. ---------- ----- is the same amt of dashes as ------- -------- both are 15 total, but the numbers in each chain can be manipulated. hope i helped.
(positive number) x (positive number) = positive number (positive number)/(positive number) = positive number (positive number) x ( negative number) = negative number (positive number)/( negative number) = negative number (negative number) x (negative number) = positive number (negative number)/(negative number) = positive number
atomic number = number of proton in an element number of proton = number of electron mass number = number of proton + number of neutron therefore... atomic number = mass number - number of neutrons
A positive number. Positive Number x Positive Number = Positive Number Positive Number x Negative Number = Negative Number Negative Number x Negative Number = Positive Number
