It is difficult to known precise details about the government ruling over the ancient Mycenaean civilization as records from that period are fractured. It seems that city-states in the area were ruled by a king with other land-owners forming his court.

The Minoan Civilization was a monarch from the central palace of Knossos. Although the Minoans were lead by a king he didn't have total power. Decisions were also made by priests (they were mainly female, scribes and officials. Because they lived on the island of Crete they were quite isolated, therefore there was no need for an army. The Minoans were a peaceful and equal civilization. Also they were quite unique.
