It is a monitor that has a variety of colours on it. This is different to a monchrome monitor, which only had two colours. These were the old type of monitors befor combinations of colours and fancy graphics. Generally monochrome monitors came in 3 combinations. Black screens with white text, black screens with green text or black screens with orange text.

Colors on a monitor are produced by mixing three primary colors (red, green, and blue) in varying intensities. Each pixel on the screen contains these three colored subpixels, and when they combine, they create different colors. By changing the intensity of each subpixel, the monitor can produce a wide range of colors.
