Brooklyn is famous for Coney Island Hot Dogs, for the Cyclone roller coaster, for the Brooklyn accent (which is quickly disappearing), for Junior's Cheesecake, and for being the birthplace of many celebrities. It's cultural institutions include the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and Brooklyn Academy of Music. Among its landmarks are the Brooklyn Bridge, the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and Grand Army Plaza. Many popular movies are set in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn is part of a city (New York City). It does not contain any cities. Brooklyn is one of the five boroughs of New York City: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island.

Like the other four boroughs of New York City, Brooklyn is made up of different neighborhoods. Perhaps the most famous Brooklyn neighborhood right now is Williamsburg.

Williamsburg has long been home to one of the largest Hasidic Jewish sects in the world. In the last 15 years or so, the neighborhood has become increasingly gentrified. The Hasidic Jews haven't gone anywhere, but they now share the neighborhood with an ever-increasing population of hip young artists, musicians and writers.

In the past, Manhattan residents almost never traveled to Brooklyn for the nightlife. It was always the opposite: residents of the other four boroughs traveled to Manhattan to go to bars, clubs, or shows. Now, it is quite common for Manhattan residents to go to Williamburg, Brooklyn on a Friday or Saturday night, as the neighborhood is now packed with trendy bars and clubs, theatres, and concert venues.

Another neighborhood in Brooklyn that has become quite gentrified is Park Slope. Park Slope was a working-class neighborhood, but in the last 15 years, it has become a middle-class neighborhood populated by professional, white-collar people and their children. Park Slope is now a very trendy, very desirable neighborhood to live in.

The same can be said of the neighborhoods known as Red Hook and Dumbo (Dumbo is an acronym for "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass").

In fact, pretty much all of Brooklyn has undergone a cultural renaissance in the last 15 years. Some people are even calling Brooklyn "the new Manhattan," although that is probably a bit of an overstatement. Williamsburg, Park Slope, Red Hook and Dumbo are the neighborhoods that have been most affected by this renaissance.
