It's a complex design of an eagle holding a red banner in it's beak with the motto 'E Pluribus Unum' written on it (which means 'out of many, one'). It's head is surrounded by a crest of 13 stars topped by 7 yellow sun rays, and it's body bears a shield with a blue upper half and a red & white vertically-striped bottom half. In it's left claw it holds an olive branch, in it's right a clutch of arrows. Underneath is a curved red emblem with 'North Dakota' written on it.
