Nessie can show someone whatever thought or memory that is going through her head at that moment, as long as she's touching them. Renesmee's ability to "penetrate mental shields" is not necessarily considered a power because she can only get inside Bella's mind (when no one else can) because a.) Nessie is Bella's daughter, therefore, they're on the same "frequency" (using Edward's term) or b.) What Carlisle had said: That Renesmee took both Bella's and Edward's powers and flipped them. (No one can enter Bella's head, while everyone can get into Renesmee's, and Edward gets inside other heads, reading their thoughts, and Renesmee shows everyone what's in her head, letting them in. Exactly opposite of her parents' abilities.)
