Today the only federally recognized tribe in Rhode Island is the Narragansett Indian Tribe of Rhode Island. Historically the Niantic and Wampanoag people lived there as well.

The Narraganset Indians are a tribe that once inhabited the current state of Rhode Island. Currently they hold a 1,800 acre reservation near the town of Charlestown Rhode Island.
I think the native Americans called the Narragansett tribe were there.
