Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar or El Cid was not assassinated, he died of natural causes on the 10th July 1099 aged 59.
El Cid's actual name was Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar. He was a military leader in Spain from 1094-1099. His warhorse was named Babieca.

El Cid Campeador, whose real name was Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, was a famous Spanish knight and military leader in the 11th century. He is known for his role in the Reconquista – the Christian reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula from Muslim rule. El Cid's exploits have been the subject of many legends and stories.
The word Cid is Spanish and is taken from the Arabic word Sayyid "lord". This title was given to Chrisitans with Muslims that were loyal to them. A famous person that bore that title was Rodrigo Diaz De Vivar. (1043-99)
