P4 is a mix of metals(gold, silver, platinum & palladium)that has the look of white gold, but is much more affordable. It can be rhodium plated(what they do with white gold to keep it lustrous),but it holds it's tone better than silver does.

The SR on the ring is probably the vendor's stamp. One that I know of that does P4 items uses the stamp SRI. It is sold through many finer jewelry store chains.

Hope this helps you.

What does 10K SR on the band of a ring mean?

10K SR means solid 10K gold with SR as the manufacturer's mark. 10K gold is 10/24 gold and 14/24 other alloying metals (usually copper and nickle) Some might say that the SR means "silver", but standard nomenclature would be .925 or sterling or some percentage, indicating the type of silver or percentage silver. But not just silver. It wouldn't make sense not giving you the alloy amount. Having cut open a ring to re-size with 10K SR stamped on it , there is no silver inside the ring. It is good to be cautious. Get a guarantee. And if you are still in doubt, maybe have another jeweler resize it. (They'll tell you if it's plated or not.) However if the ring indicated an alloy of silver base metal, the plating would wear over time. Some jewelers ( Whitehall as an example) will offer a plan that will cover 2 years worth of re-plating. After that, you're on your own. On a white gold ring, it won't be as noticeable but the sterling will have a less dull shine than the plating. As always with Sterling, keep it in a small ziplock bag to keep it from turning when not in use.
