Satan has no mission from God. He is a renegade son of the Most High who decided he could rule the world much better than his father. He is and has been the ruler of this little planet ever since Adam and Eve sinned. Soon he will be destroyed forever along with anyone else who feels more intelligent than The Creator himself.

Answer:

According to The Bible... Satan and his angels are being restrained within earth's confines until Judgment Day, to have their works judged, along with man's.

"...neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great Dragon was cast out, that old Serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." (Rev.12:9)

"And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home -- these He has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for Judgment on the Great Day." (Jude 1:6 NIV)

Lucifer and his angels had a "commission" in the beginning, after they were created, within the universal Government or Kingdom of God, the specifics of which the Bible doesn't disclose.

All we are told about the angels' general commission, is that God created them to assist Him in bringing man to salvation.

"Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?" (Heb.1:14)

The Bible calls him: "...the anointed cherub [a cherub is an angel] that COVERETH; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the Holy Mountain of God [in the beginning, he worked and functioned at the very throne of God]..." (Ezek.28:14).

The "lid of the Ark of the Covenant" represented a physical pattern or type of the "throne of God." At its center was the "Mercy Seat" or "God's throne." And on either side of it were two "cherubs" [pronounced; kar'- oob] or angels, facing inwardly from each end of the lid toward the Mercy Seat. They both had their wings outstretched toward the Mercy Seat -- COVERING IT -- seemingly in a "protective" posture.

"...thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the Mercy Seat. And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end: even of the Mercy Seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof.

"And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, COVERING THE MERCY SEAT WITH THEIR WINGS, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the Mercy Seat shall the faces of the cherubims be..." (Ex.25:18-20).

The exact meaning of this "covering" is not disclosed. It only seems to demonstrate that these two "covering cherubim" were "high ranking angels" within God's universal Government.

The biblical evidence is that THIS was Lucifer's original "commission" before God -- he was one of these two "anointed cherubim that covereth." Whatever it may have mysteriously entailed, the Bible remains secretive about it. And the biblical account reveals that this "commissioned" lofty position within God's Government was treacherously betrayed by the Dragon and his angels following their creation and subsequent commission sometime in the beginning.

Even the New Testament scriptures allude to it:

"... the Ark of the Covenant overlaid round about with gold... and over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the Mercyseat; OF WHICH WE CANNOT NOW SPEAK PARTICULARLY." (Heb.9:4-5)

Even the saints of God are forbidden to talk about this mysterious "overshadowing" of the Mercy Seat during this present dispensation of time.

So, the specifics of Satan's [Lucifer's] original "commission" within God's Government isn't disclosed. Only scraps of inspired testimony seem to reveal that Lucifer was of high rank among God's created angels [with a third of God's angels under his authority - Rev.12:4]... and that he originally worked closely with God in the function of His Government... even at His very throne.

The biblical evidence is that all of this will be revealed on Judgment Day, when the "angels that sinned" will have all the evidence fully disclosed... testimonies given... and their works judged.

"Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world?... Know ye not that WE SHALL JUDGE ANGELS?" (I Cor.6:2-3)

On Judgment Day... we'll all know what Satan's commission was.
