It's actually pretty easy (I just did it). The bulb assembly is a twist fit into the housing. You can either disconnect the cable before or after removing the bulb from the housing - which ever is easier. Twist the bulb an eighth of a turn, counter clockwise, which will release the flanges. Pull the bulb out and replace with a new one. Be careful not to touch the actual glass part, as finger oils can decrease the life of the bulb. Reconnect the electrical cable. The generic bulb number is 9005 (HB3) for the low beam (the outside lamp) and 9006 (HB4) for the high beam (inside lamp). 9005 is a high beam (inside) and 9006 is a low beam (outside).

In a lot of newer cars, you pop the hood and twist off the bulb-holder from behind the headlight. Then, you remove the old bulb, insert the new bulb, and twist the bulb-holder back into the headlight. In some cars, you have to replace the whole headlight.
