Subsurface Textile Irrigation (STI) is the only irrigation system designed specifically for use undergound.

Water is supplied to the soil from the surface of a geotextile fabric rather than from individual emitters in a drip line. Dispersing the water over a larger area reduces the rate of water discharged to the soil bringing it closer to the capillary absorption rate of the soil; and also converts the drip line from a series of point sources to a single, broad line source.

STI delivers a continuous, wide wetting pattern, unlike subsurface drip which tends to be disconnected and elongated.

What is the best drip irrigation system?

Depending on the crop grown, a subsurface drip system is the most water efficient irrigation system as it delivers water directly to the root zone and experiences virtually no wastage from evaporation or run off. The most efficient subsurface system is Subsurface Textile Irrigation which uses up to 60% less water than surface irrigation and 30% less than conventional subsurface drip irrigation. Subsurface Textile Irrigation has a long life span, requires less maintenance, is simple to retrofit and is the safest way to use recycled water as it disperses the water undergound and there is no tunneling of water to the surface. STI is used throughout the world to irrigate crops, sports fields, public parks and gardens and even residential back yards and green roofs.

What is natural subsurface irrigation and artificial subsurface irrigation?

natural subsurface irrigation :- those areas which lie near to canal and roots zone of crops doenst require irrigation water Artificial irrigation :- by a network of pipe and pump water is provide to the root zone

What is Drip irrigation in the Murray river?

Drip irrigation is a type of irrigation used in the Murray River. Drip irrigation is a continuous tube with evenly spaced emitters that 'drip' water. Drip irrigation is used on the surface, often hung from trellis, or below the surface. Drip irrigation, especially subsurface, is a water efficient approach to irrigation and so is favoured along the Murray River as the area is in extreme drought. There is a new type of extremely water efficient irrigation that is starting to be used throughout the Murray river area, because it uses far less water than any other irrigation system. The KISSS Subsurface Textile Irrigation system is increasingly used in sports fields, crops and backyards due to it's water efficiency.

What are the disadvantages of subsurface irrigation?

it gives water straight to the underneath root system

Irrigation method used for bananas?

Subsurface irrigation is the irrigation method used for bananas.water is generally stored in tank like structure then water is supplied to the channel which will wet the root zone.

What are the types of drip irrigation?

Water is conveyed through a system of flexible pipelines operating at low pressure and it is applied to the plant through drip nozzles. This technique is also called as feeding bottle technique. There are two types of drip irrigation: - surface drip irrigation (drip tubes placed on the surface, or hung on a trellis as in vineyards) and - subsurface drip irrigation (where the drip tubes are buried beneath the surface and water is applied directly to the root zone). Drip irrigation can also be supplied with a root intrusion inhibitant - to stop roots affecting the drip emmitters. This is recommended for subsurface drip - although there are new products available that do not require the addition of herbicide to deter root intrusion.
