What is The Hunger Games summary?

This is post-apocalypse United States.

There are 13 districts which are like states and each has their own industry such as mining, agriculture, etc.

There is the capitol called The Capitol.

A long time ago, the 13th district rebelled against the Capitol, so they were destroyed. The 13th district is in ruins. To remind the rest of the people not to rebel, The Hunger Games were created.

Each district has two tributes, a boy and a girl from the age 12 to 18, who compete in the Hunger Games. In total, there are 26 tributes. They all fight to the death in an arena until there is one winner.

Katniss is the main character. She has a sister and mother, and she hunts for food outside of District 12's border. Her best friend is Gale who hunts with her. When her sister is called to be a tribute, she volunteers to take her place. Peeta is the other tribute for District 12.

Haymitch, a past Hunger Games winner, is their mentor. Before she leaves district 12 to go to the capitol, the mayor's daughter gives her a mockingjay pin.

Katniss and Peeta quickly become the most popular tributes because of them being 'star crossed lovers' when peeta reveals that he likes Katniss. They are also popular because they had the most spectacular costume in the opening ceremonies. And also because Katniss is a really good hunter with her bow. That becomes her signature weapon.

Katniss and Peeta have to act like they're in love to get good ratings from the public because The Hunger Games are televised. When they get good ratings, they get sponsors. With sponsors, they get necessary items when they are in the arena.

Once they are in the arena, Peeta and Katniss are split up. Katniss temporarily alliances with Rue. Eventually, Rue gets killed and Katniss sings to her as she dies. This was seen as rebelling because that had never happened in the games.

Eventually, Peeta and Katniss are reunited when the head gamemaker announces that there will be TWO winners this year if the last two survivors are from the same district.

Peeta has a bad leg cut that is getting infected, and Katniss manages to nurse him back to health with the help of medicine from haymitch.

they continue to pretend to be in love ,but peeta isn't pretending.

Eventually, at the end, peeta and katniss almost die. Peeta, Katniss, and another tribute are left fighting, until a pack of mutated dogs meant to look like other tributes start attacking them. The dogs end up attacking the other tribute, and out of pity, Katniss shoots him with an arrow to put him out of his misery.

Once peeta and katniss are the only ones alive, they celebrate for winning until the head gamemaker comes on the intercom, and tells them that there will no longer be two winners. One of them must kill the other.

Instead of killing each other, katniss grabs poisonous berries and they decide to eat them together, so they would both die.

Before they can swallow the berries, the head gamemaker comes back on, and says that they both win! So, they spit out the berries.

Once katniss gets out of the arena, she discovers that she is in great danger. By trying to cheat the system with the berries, she's seen as rebelling, and other districts have started to rebel in her name. So she has to be careful.
