Thomas Elision is credited with claiming to have said: "There is no idea out there that is not worth stealing". I have no way of knowing if he really said this or not, but he is credited for far more then he should be credited for.
The light bulb is one example. He did, in fact, have people working round the clock to develop the incandescent bulb. In the mean time, Tesla invented the Florescent bulb. The problem was that Edison hadn't invented a method to generate alternating current. He was a fan of direct current.
The problem with Direct current is that you can't send it for long distances. Tesla had solved that issue also. Too bad that Tesla was not a great ad man, like Edison. Had he been he would be far more famous then this con man.
The "best" invention Edison had was probably the creation of the electric chair. He decided to invent this to prove how bad Tesla's invention of AC was. He managed to get his hands on a Tesla generator and made a chair that should kill. He touted this as proof of how bad Tesla and his invention was. The chair didn't work so well and William Kemmle (the first victim) is badly burnt. A little work on the chair later and he is history... and in the history books.
actually thomas edison did not make the lightbulb
