He calls himself Madara Uchiha. Is he really? It's not proven yet. Many people agree that he is and many believe that he is Danzo or Obito Uchiha. There are many reasons to believe anyone of these alias.

Why he could be Madara:

First of all, he makes sure that everyone he comes across know that his name is Madara Uchiha. He possess the sharingan and mangekyou sharingan. He knows much about the Uchiha past dating back to the first Hokage. He apparently knows Itachi and his past well also.

Why he could be Danzo:

Tobi is constantly wearing a mask that only reveals his right eye. Danzo only has sharingan in his right eye since he took it from a fallen Uchiha. Tobi doesnt battle because he says that he is "far too weak" at the time and danzo is shown to be in bandages after a few ninja transplants.

Why he could be Obito Uchiha:

Obito, after giving Kakashi is left eye, only possess the sharingan in his right eye. Obito had his body crushed and was left mortally hurt while he was young thus connecting why Tobi doesn't do too much hand to hand fighting. Tobi is shown to be a master at the teleportation jutsu, only which was previously mastered by his mentor, the Fourth Hokage. Plus they have the same hair.

Madara Uchiha would be extremely old, the hair is different and was supposed to be close to Itachi but was never shown around him.

Danzo is not and Uchiha, thus he cannot have his sharingan active at all times. Tobi is shown using sharingan every time (like Itachi).

Obito was left for dead when he and Kakashi were young. His entire right side of his body was smashed by a giant boulder.
