Yom Kippur, also known as the day of atonement, is the holiday during which Jews seek to be forgiven for their mistakes of the preceding year. We apologise to HaShem for any mistakes we have made in the preceding year and ask His forgiveness. If we have acted in a negative way to a person, we go to that specific person and apologise and ask their forgiveness.

The majority of the day is spent in synagogue for community prayer. This is also a fast day which means no food or water for 25 hours.
