first off, i am not 100% if this is correct, but i believe the 5D's stand for the 5 signer dragons from the YuGiOh 5Ds Anime. I can only name 4 of the 5 at this moment and are Stardust Dragon, Red Dragon Archfiend, Black Rose Dragon, and Ancient Fairy Dragon.
As for the booster packs, im not sure, but they got me back into the game, they introduced a new Mechanic in the form of the Synchro/Tuner Monsters, and a new type "Psychic".
