From what Nintendo Puts out link's story is! that he was given to and rasied by the kikariowhen he was a baby after Ganon kills the great deku tree Link sets off on a quest to find the triforce. In order to save the Triforce he needs the master sword but when he finds it his spirit is trapped for 7 years in the temple of time because he is to yough to be "The hero of time" so when he awakes he discovers ganon has taken over Hyrule and the triforce has been separated into 3 parts Power, Wisdom, and Courage (He has courage) then he needs to find and save princess Zelda yadda yadda yadda finds her kills ganon and then is returned to his child for by Zelda!

But this is only one story there are many other links all with other storys.
