there are 3different varieties known. depending on yours, anywhere from 15 to around 3000 depending on type and condition. have someone in your area with knowledge of Canadian Coins look at it.
All 1973 Canadian quarters carry the dual date 1873-1973 in honor of the centennial of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, or "Mounties". Nearly all of them are only worth 25¢ except in proof or uncirculated condition.
The exception is a variety that's worth as much as $50. In 1973 the image of the Queen on the coin's obverse was reworked to make it slightly smaller and more sharply detailed. However a small number of quarters were produced with the larger, less-detailed image used during the years 1968 to 1972. To know which you have, you need to compare the Queen's portrait on your RCMP quarter to that on a quarter from 1968-72. If they're the same, you've hit the jackpot.
$15.00 to $50.00 depending on quality and condition of coin. I just bought one for $20.00.
The coin honors not municipal policemen but rather the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, or "Mounties". Please see the Related Question for more information.
