I also have a series 1935 one dollar silver certificate with yellow seal (African War Circulation) that is separated in half but I have been unable to determine value; Now I know there are other similar bills out there.

It will have the words Silver Certificate printed across the top of the bill's front. In most but not all cases, the seal and serial numbers will be printed in blue ink.

Please don't assume that every old bill is a silver certificate. If it has a green seal it should say Federal Reserve Note across the top front, not silver certificate. There's more information at the question "What is the value of a 1934 US 5 dollar Federal Reserve Note?"

1928 $50 bills weren't issued as silver certificates. Please check the wording across your bill's top front; then see one of the following questions:"What is the value of a 1928 US 50 dollar Federal Reserve Note?""What is the value of a 1928 US 50 dollar gold certificate?"
The first $1 silver certificates were dated 1886. They had a picture of Martha Washington on the front. Other denominations of silver certificates were issued as early as 1878, however.
