A Bronsted-Lowry Acid Donates H+ ions
A bronsted-lowry base is a molecule with a lone pair of electrons hanging out that are just waiting to snatch up a proton (H+). For example, an oxygen atom is normally bonded to two other atoms to keep a neutral charge, but, if during a reaction, one of those atoms is taken away, the oxygen ends up with an overall negative charge. That negative charge is super attracted to any H+ that may be running around in the solution. Because the oxygen has that lone pair ready to go after H+, it is considered a base.
