That's a vague question. A name for the Holy Eucharist in the Catholic Church is the "Holy Sacrifice," from where Jesus says "This is my body which has been given up for you" at the Last Supper. However, a sacrifice can refer to giving up something you would normally do or want but instead refrain from that and offer it up to God.

Why do some Catholic Churches still practice animal sacrifice?

The Catholic Church has never practiced animal sacrifice nor does the Church endorse it. You may be referring to Santeria which is practiced in some Caribbean countries as a form of witchcraft by some claiming to be Catholic but it is not part of the Church and is not approved by the Church. Anything which even hints of superstition is considered as sinful by the Church.

What does the Roman Catholic Church say happens in the Mass?

It's just Catholic, not Roman Catholic. Roman is an epithet first commonly used in England after the protestant revolt to describe the Catholic Church. It is never used by the official Catholic Church. The Mass, known as the Eucharist in Catholic theology, is the re-presentation of Christ's sacrifice of Himself on Calvary. Thus, in the Mass, Christ becomes truly present on the altar, as well as His sacrifice of Himself on Calvary, and the faithful are witnesses to His Sacrifice every bit as much as St. Thomas and the Blessed Virgin Mary as they stood on Calvary and watched Him expire on the cross. The technical term for the transformation of the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ is known as transubstantiation.

What is the difference between the sacrifice on Calvary to the sacrifice of the mass of Jesus Christ?

There is no sacrifice of the mass in Protestant faith, for Jesus was sacrificed once for us on Calvary, so no other sacrifice is needed. You shall have to ask our Roman Catholic brethren on this question.

Why do you call the Holy Mass a sacrifice?

Roman Catholic AnswerBecause that is what it is! The Mass is the re-presentation of Our Blessed Lord's sacrifice of Himself on the Cross at Calvary. At the Mass, we are privileged to witness Our Lord's sacrifice - the once and only sacrifice - and to participate in the graces He extends through it to us.

How are Christianity and Aztec beliefs similar?

It's just Catholic, not Roman Catholic. Roman is an epithet first commonly used in England after the protestant revolt to describe the Catholic Church. It is never used by the official Catholic Church. . Both religions are based on human blood sacrifice, although in the case of the Catholic religion, those sacrifices were prefigured in animal sacrifice and completed in the self-sacrifice of the God-man, Jesus Christ, on the cross. Every re-presentation of that sacrifice is offered on the altar in an unbloody manner under the forms of bread and wine. The Aztec sacrificed just about anyone, and rivers of blood flowed as they sacrificed their enemies, their children, etc.

Has the Pope ever sacrificed anyone on Good Friday?
