A Thurible or (censer) is an incense burner suspended from a chain(s) used for the spreading of incense. Inside the golden vessel in burning charcoal bricks/disks and granular incense is scooper onto them and the smoke starts to rise. The lid is lowered and the sweet fragrance comes out of the holes on the lid. The censer is carried or swung in the church and/or around objects to bless them. In The Bible both in Old and New Testament, incense was used to symbolize the prayers of saints rising to God. (Revelation Ch. 8) Incense is used in many but not all sects of Christianity such as Catholic, Old Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Anglican (Episcopal in the USA) and Lutheran churches.
