The Linoprinter is or was a graphic-arts product in the hobby or amateur category that was developed by Mattel in l964 and was marketed under the handle of the parent company, Matson & Elliott as to forestall excessive (Toy) connotations. basically themachine was neat combination of a typesetting machine and printing press, was entirely mechanical(no power consumption) and used rubberized type , eliminating thermal hazards. The device ws patented in l964 and more or less heavily marketed in l966-67, falling out after that. it is thought the niche market was too small, few of these machines have survived and technical manuals are scarce, I have never seen one! stores had problems do we sell this thing as a toy or hobby item or with stationery lilke typewriters and other office machines. there are rumors there was a Linoprinter-C using, are your ready for this, CYRILLIC type, Comrade! I have never seen one of these. possibly Mattel/Matson and Elliott got into (patent Wars) with Mergenthaler, who owned the rights to linotype but the machine worked on an entirely different and safe (for youth audience ) principle it is a difficult product to track down, but was madd-marketed in about l966-67 in the Yule Season/ they did some advertising in DC comic books!

A linoprinter is a type of printer that uses a linoleum block as the printing plate. The image or design is carved into the linoleum surface, which is then inked and pressed onto paper to create a print. Linoprinting is a form of relief printing.

Is the word skyscraper a common noun?

Yes, by long standing usage- it has been in use since about l902, when the Flatiron Building was completed, the first modern Skyscraper. It is not a trade name like Linotype or Linoprinter, so it must be considered a common noun. Linotype and Linoprinter, the latter made by Matson and Elliott company ( parent company of Mattel) are both trade names for typesetting, and in the latter case- combined typesetting and printing processes and machines. Skyscraper is not a trade name.

How have old-fashioned Paper Dolls changed to Barbie dolls over time?

The question is a little- double-off-center. First of all paper dolls are paper and were offered in cardboard cut-out magazine ( about the size of a magazine) format as independent products- sold in candy stores, magazine racks, etc- and NOT generally in toy stores. Barbie is a three-dimensional doll , has been since l959 and is a durable Money-Horse for the Mattel company. More technical products such as the Linoprinter come and go, but Barbie is a steady moving target in all senses. There may be Barbie paper dolls- but I am not familiar with them. There was a short-lived Barbie comic book by Marvel ( of all people) and it was cool, cutesy, and Not at all violent. One had Barbie and Ken as EPA agents parachuting into a jungle- a sort of Tarzan or Adam and Eve in reverse gear- on a mission to help wildlife- Barbie adopts a baby otter- who had been in dire straits, presumably from a tanker accident? that"s a positive brand of ecology .

Why High-Speed printing presses sometimes use gas flames to reduce electrical charge build up on the paper passing though the press?

This would appear to constitute a real and risky fire hazard. Paper catches fire at 45l F, the title of the Bradbury book (which dealt with book-burning by a perverse fire brigade that went about starting, rather than extinguishing, fires. It is conceivable that you may be thinking of Typsetting machines, such as the now-obsolete Linotype which used heat -in fact had a melting pot to recycle type metal, which was fire-formed in a sense, the machine set up the type, did not do the actual printing. these had thermostat controled gas flames and thus consumed ( In Brooklyn, where they were made, Brooklyn Union Gas, a subsidiary of better known Con Ed Power and Light.) There are and were cold-cast composing machines also, such as the Linoprinter by Matson and Elliott which sadly did not advance much from the toy stages. It should be mentioned that Matson& Elliott was the parent company of Mattel.

Which toy manufacturing group has been producing Barbie dolls for more than 40 years?

Mattel, Inc., makes Barbie dolls. Mattel, Inc., of Segundo, California The toy company that makes barbie dolls is mattel inc Mattel. Barbie has always been a registered trademark of Mattel. Mattel was originally known as Matson and Elliott, of which it is a sort of contraction. Under the Matson and Elliott label they made the Linoprinter, a combination typesetting machine and printing press, which sadly did poorly in the market place. It was not known whether to market it as a toy or a business machine. Mattel, Inc. The designers for Mattel are based in Los Angeles at the company's headquarters.
