The 550 was made from 1941-1970. You can figure our exactly when it was made but looking at the information supplied here:

The value of a 550, like any firearm, is greatly determined by it's condition the best way to see real value is to check places like gunbroker.com, gunsamerica.com, gunsinternation.com and look for like condition items, if you can watch for SOLD items, asking and sold sometimes differ greatly, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it ;)
AnswerNo. In my research into this question, they dont come with a Remington barrel, but they say that the Remington model 11 barrel is interchangeable with the Savage 720, and visa versa. They will not be interchangeable with the Browning A5 barrel.
The Remington Model 10 slide action has barrel lengths of 26" 28" 30" and 32"
Your Remington model 721 was produced from 1948-1962. If you can supply the 2,or 3 letter code on the barrel we can pinpoint the month and year of production.
What is the value of a Remington 29 T 32 barrel worth in great condition
Remington Model 12 barrels are threaded to the action. Barrels can be replaced with the proper equipment.
They month and year can be determined by the barrel code, all the details can be found on the Remington Society of America here: http://remingtonsociety.com/rsa/questions/barrelcodes
The Model 81 Remingtons were produced until 1950 and by going to the Remington Website there is no means of identifying (solely by serial number) when your rifle was produced, but... The following link uses two proof marks on the left side of the barrel (just forward of the receiver) that are date stamps of the barrel manufacture. If your barrel has not been replaced, this should give you an idea of the month and year it was produced. http://www.remingtonsociety.com/questions/BLACKPOWDERX.htm I used this to date my Model 81, with a 21XXX SerNo, it was apparently produced in Jun 1942, with a PL code.

You can request a manual from Remington on their web site.
The Remington model 12C slide action 22cal. was produced from 1909-1936.
