It depends on the "generation" The first ones to be released have problems with jams, stovepipes, poor feeding from the magazine, and the carriers in the magazines not sliding freely back up when loaded with a full load. Higher quality ammo, not the bulk "333" and 500 packs seem to help a little. I have one that came with a 3-9x40 Tasco(a bit overkill for a .22lr) and 2 magazines. I gave $125 and because of the problems I feel I over paid. Very disappointing from a quality gunmaker like Remington Arms. It is however, even with the problems, an extremely accurate rifle, I can shoot under 1" groups of 5 at 30-40 yds every time. They have since worked these issues out and turned the 514 into a smooth cycling extremely reliable rifle, I wish I would have waited. Though I cannot tell you what the 2nd generation is worth I can tell you that I would happily pay double what I paid for the one I have if I was buying one today. I do though stick by my opinion that the Ruger 10/22 is the best .22lr ever produced.
