A SATA hard drive is a hard drive that connects to the computer through the SATA bus. SATA is an interface released in 2004 to replace older IDE / PATA interfaces.

Also called a Serial ATA, the SATA hard drive helps in the process of transferring data from an external hard drive to the bus in the computer. The bus is a component that transfers information from one part of the computer system to another.
