yes you can reverse worm and gear. A worm gear can rotate the worm, its based on the lead angle, pressure angle and co.efficient of friction between the pairs.
A worm drive.
A crown gear has teeth that engage with other bevel gears. The teeth stick out at right angles to the face of the wheel. A worm gear is a screw that attaches to a wheel by engaging teeth along the wheel. As the screw turns, the wheel also moves and the drive reduces rotational speed and allows for higher torque. Worm gears are used when a project requires large gear reductions.
Worm drive circular saws are tough saws. They are powerful and have a long shelf life. A regular circular saw is a good saw, but not quite as durable as worm drive.
The general answer applies to this and other equipment or tools with similar drives. It goes like this. The worm gear is often machined onto the end of the rotor in the motor. The gear it drives, the worm wheel, is made of material that is not as hard and can fail more easily. If the tool jams up, it is better in the long run (read easier and cheaper) to replace the worm wheel rather than the worm itself. A similar tool with this drive setup is one of the high end Oster barber clippers.
