Another name for a farmer is a producer, an agriculturalist or an agronomist. The name "producer" is the most common name you'll hear in the farming community when talking with people who farm and those who do not farm but cater to producers. The term "farmer" is, to some, especially those who do run a farm, a bit of a derogatory, prejudiced and stereotypical term for those who live and work in the country, raising crops and/or livestock, and something that isn't taken lightly. The term "farmer" is more reserved for urban folk or those who are new to the farming community, not for the veteran "farmers" themselves.
