A "ball mouse" or mechanical mouse is a computer mouse which detects user inputs using a system of servos detecting the movements of a ball (inside the mouse) which rolls on the desk surface. The most common alternative, the "optical mouse" uses optical sensors to detect user inputs.
The optical mouse is widely considered to be superior in all important respects, and is therefore becoming much more common then their mechanical cousins.
A track ball mouse is a mouse that uses an internal ball to track movement, instead of a laser. These have been outdated by optical mice.

Track Ball Mouse
Almost all laptops these days include a built in mouse, though very few include a track ball. You can purchase a track ball and attach it to your laptop, if you so desire. anonymous@oola.com
The track ball mouse is designed for use by people with dexterity problems. They are manufactured by Logitech and Kensington and can be bought from any good computer store.
They both do the same job. And on an older mouse it's easy to see the similarities. An older computer mouse would have a ball underneath. Then as you moved the mouse around the ball would roll and the computer would count the rotations. A track ball was basically a mouse turned upside down. Instead of moving the mouse to rotate the ball, you'd move the ball directly with your fingers instead.

If you remember the mice used long time ago before optical mice, they used a rubber ball underneath them to track movement. Well, take that technology and imagine the mouse upside down where you only spin the ball while the mouse is stationary. A track ball is a large mounted ball fixed in position apart from its rotation ability that is designed to move the cursor like a mouse except that it is stationary.
Well track balls would be better do to being able to use it on any surface
A trackball is an input device for controlling the cursor (mouse) the ball works the same way the ball on a mouse works except that you use your hand to turn the ball. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trackball
It's an input like we use mouse and keyboard in computer.
what is roller ball mouse
In computing, a track ball is a pointing device, such as the one seen at the bottom of a computer mouse. They work by using sensors to detect the direction in which the user is moving it.
