A begena is a type of lyre with a rectangular soundbox and ten strings, played with a plectrum, of Ethiopian and Eritrean origin.
Ethiopian music features a variety of traditional instruments, including the krar, a six-string lyre; the masenqo, a single-string bowed instrument; and the kebero, a large drum often used in religious ceremonies.
