A bellamite is a squid-like animal from the Jurassic age. It was normally about 15 centimetres long in body-length, but could get bigger than that. It is not uncommon to see fossilised bellamites on Jurassic coasts such as southern Britain (Dorset etc) and is common around pyritic sands (sands containing high levels of iron pyrite - fools gold).
