Caatinga (from Tupi: caa (forest) + tinga (white) white = forest) is the only exclusively Brazilian biome, which means that much of their biological heritage can not be found anywhere else on the planet. This name derives from the white landscape presented by the vegetation during the dry season, most plants lose leaves and stems become whitish and dry. The caatinga occupies an area of about 850,000 square kilometers, about 10% of the country, comprising continuously part of the states of Maranhao, Piaui, Ceara, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraiba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia (Northeast region Brazil). From the standpoint of vegetation, the region is classified as savanna scrub steppe. However, the landscape is quite diverse, with distinct regions, whose differences are due to rainfall, soil fertility and soil type and topography. A first division can be made is between the wild and wilderness. The rugged range is a transition between the dry interior and the Atlantic, characteristic of Zone Mat
South America is home to some of the most diverse bird species. Some have a hint of yellow about them, such as the Yellow-Crowned Amazon which is predominantly green but partly yellow and the Brown-and-Yellow Marshbird, which is brown except for a yellow breast. Some species of Elaenia native to South America are also yellow as are some cuckoos and the Caatinga Parakeet. The Yellow Warbler, a wholly yellow bird, is often seen in the northern parts of South America.
