Canter is where you sit deap in the saddle and move with the horse It's a three-beat gait, like they said, between trot and gallop. This is the gait in which lead changes take place in regards to which leg (front right or front left) the horse uses for the downbeat of the gait. Personally, its my favorite because the rocking motion makes moving with the horse easy and relaxing.
Cantered is the past tense form of canter, as in having done. The canter is the third fastest gait of the horse, a three-beat gait. Example sentence: "She asked the horse to canter and he cantered to the jump."
A hand gallop is also known as an extended canter, it is faster than a regular canter, but slower than a gallop.

A pirouette at a canter is when you make a full circle (left or right) on your horse's back feet. Its the same at the walk, except the pirouette at the canter is at a canter, if a slow one (your horse should be able to canter on the spot).
