A cartilaginous joint consists of bone connected by cartilage. A good example are ones connecting some of your ribs to the sternum. It is slightly moveable but doesn't have the range of movement like your knee joint. The knee joint is a synovial joint.

A cartilaginous joint is formed when the bones are connected by cartilage with the lack of a joint cavity. These joints are slightly movable. Examples include the spine and intervertebral discs.

Cartilaginous joints are ones that are connected only by cartilage, and not ligaments or tendons. An example of a cartilaginous joint would be the discs of the spinal cord.

What do cartilaginous joints do?

Cartilaginous joints are connected entirely by cartilage (fibrocartilage or hyaline).[1] Cartilaginous joints allow more movement between bones than a fibrous joint but less than the highly mobile synovial joint. An example would be the joint between the manubrium and the sternum. Cartilaginous joints also form the growth regions of immature long bones and the intervertebral discs of the spinal column.
