What is a cell membrance FOR?

a cell membrane is what holds the cell together and makes it a discrete unit. with out it the cellular contents would just be a pool of stuff. think of it like a waterr balloon the balloon is the membrane and the water is the cytoplasm. the membrane also holds loads of proteins in place for recognition, transport etc.
