the steering box turns the drivers side wheel and the link goes across under the engine and turns the passenger wheel. the steer links have bushings on both end that wear from mileage and the whole link is usually replaced.

Remove the nut holding the idler arm to the center link. Separate the joint with a "pickle fork". Remove the two bolts and nuts from the frame end of the idler arm. Remove idler arm.

Check the headlight switch, if not it's probably a fusible link in the headlight circuit.

A quick test without an ohm meter would be to pull on the suspected fuseable link wire. If it is blown it will stretch line a rubber band.
