It is used as a means of protection from evil or can be used to bring misfortune to an enemy.

A charm is, as described by the Mirriam-Webster Dictionary:

the chanting or reciting of words in a magical spell (sometimes called an incantation);

a movement or practice, or a quote or expression that is believed to have magical power;

something worn or carried on or about your person to promote and/or insure good fortune or alternately to ward off and/or protect you from evil or misfortune (sometimes called an amulet).

A talisman is, as described by the Mirrium-Webster Dictionary:

an object held, worn, or carried as a charm (see above) to protect from harm or draw good fortune. The most common talismans are worn as jewelry (rings or pendants);

something which produces apparent magical or miraculous effects.

At no point in my decades of magical practice have I ever encountered the use of a charm, talisman or amulet to bring misfortune or ill wishes of any kind to another human being.
