A Code of Chivalry are rules of behaviour which a man was supposed to follow when he was made a knight. The idea of a knight as an epitome of virtue became very popular during the 12th and 13th centuries and was used in the development of the Legends of King Arthur at that time. However, as the use of knights as a military force was made obsolete by gunpowder, knighthoods were given more as political rewards than anything else, and the knights did not and were not expected to adhere to any particular moral code.
