copper or even more often brass Copper and aluminum are used in house wiring. Aluminum is typically used in the entrance cable and copper for everything past the breaker panel. Aluminum was used for house wiring a few decades ago but it was linked to numerous electrical fires because the connections would weaken over time.

Why are electric wires made out of metal instead of rubber?

Metal is a very good conductor of electricity. Rubber doesn't conduct electricity.

What is a metal that is often used in wires that conduct electricity?

Copper, and to a lesser extent gold, are used in conductors.

What is metal that is used in wires that conduct electricity?

Copper (Cu) is the most common metal used in conducting wire. If you have the money the best conductor (excluding super cooled super conductors) would be pure silver (Ag).

What kind of solutions don't conduct electricity?

One solution that will not conduct electricity is pure water. The reason is that it needs a dissociated ionic compound that can mix with water when detached, and then it will be unable to conduct.

What are the functions for metal wires in a computer microprocessor?

Conduct electricity, of course. They connect signals from point to point in the circuit like in all electronics.

Is wire metal?

Metal wires are single strands of flexible material often used to carry electrical currents, telecommunication signals, and hold mechanical loads.

Can anythang besides metal conduct electricity?

All wires conduct electricity, since wire is always made of metal, and all metals are conductors. Copper is preferred though, as it has the highest electrical conductivity rating of all non-precious metals. It is also very ductile when annealed, so can be drawn into wire of anything down to sub-millimetre diameters. Other metals are used for other properties. Aluminum wire has a higher conductivity to weight ratio and lower cost, for instance.

What do the wires in the middle of a light bulb do?

The filament is made of tungten and these 'wires' (filament) conduct electricity.

Why are copper wires used as the connecting wires?

Copper is a metal and as such it can conduct electricity very well. Additionally, copper is a very good conductor off heat when compared to the more abundant metals such as aluminium.
