Remote Computer Access is not "taking over" a computer, by definition. Technically, you are remotely accessing a computer as you read this web page. That is because servers that are web servers host web-pages that are accessed remotely by users, like yourself.

A business application of Remote Computer Access is when an organization has employees remotely access computers or servers over either a dedicated line, but more often over the internet, using encryption, such as VPN or IPsec. This would be a business person meeting clients or checking on status of sales, etc. from out of town. There are many more applications for this.

There is also remote access that can be performed on PC's over the internet, via a computer that has been infected by malware. I believe this is what the original answerer was referring to. Someone could access your PC, remotely, from anywhere in the world in this circumstance.

Another application would be an ad-hoc network. In this scenario, you have some home office PC's that you want to access throughout the home network. This is becoming less and less popular, due to the availability of better and more secure home networking options.

Lets clear basic doubts first.A remote access to a computer will need authentication of the owner of the computer u want to access remotely to.

It is basically controlling other computer via your computer.

There are settings in the "Remote" tab under "My Computers, Properties" on both the computers.

The computer u want to access remotely to will have an Internet IP address.

You have to request the owner for the IP address which can be figured out by logging into www.myipaddress.com.

Once you have the IP address you can copy/paste it on your Remotely access screen found under "Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories "

So i hope now you know what is the computer you can remotely access, it is nothing but the computer whose owner knows you and trusts you and hence lets you access his computer for any specific work.

Hope your question is now resolved.

Cheers,

There is no specific term for this, but you could possibly call it a server (the service it is providing you is remote access to itself) depending on the topology, or just a host, or a variety of similar terms.

That is when you use a program on one computer to sort of "use" another computer. The two computers must have the same program running. Some programs let you take complete control of the computer.

Remote access from one computer to another cannot be obtained without access or a login to the remote system, additionally firewalls, if applicable, should be configured to all such access. The simplest method RDP or remote desktop protocol and all that is required is the IP address of the remote machine. There are however many programs and internet applications to gain such access for example remote desktop on a windows PC.
