A conk is a black "hairstyle" that was popular before the black power movement. It consisted of the chemical straightening of negroid hair. The reason Malcolm goes on about it is that he finds it detrimental to our entire race that blacks (himself included) would engage in the extremely dangerous process of conking merely to snuff out their black features in order to look more like the white man.
