The difference between a renewable and a non-renewable resource is generally the timescale over which the resource replenishes. Something would be considered 'renewable' if it replenishes over the same timescale in which it is used.

Technically, all our energy resources are theoretically renewable, but fossil fuels replenish at an astronomically slower rate than we use them (they basically represent a form of solar energy from millions of years ago). Solar power and wind are renewable. Hydropower is basically renewable. And geothermal power is considered renewable primarily because at the point at which it is used up, the earth will basically no longer exist as we know it anyway.

What is the difference between a renewable and nonrenewable resource and how does it even relate to geothermal energy?

renewable energy resources are those that can be reused while non-renewable energy resources are those that, once used are lost forever and cannot be regenerated again.examples of renewable resources include:solar energy, paper, wind energy , water,etc.e.g of non-renewable resources:wildlife ,petrol, etc.renewable resources are available in nature in plenty but non-renewable resources are limited and at the same time cannot be regenerated after use. Geothermal is a renewable resource. We can take advantage of the hot rocks underground for a long time before the earth cools.

How does coal differ from pine trees as a source of energy?

What is the difference between a renewable and a nonrenewable resource and how are they each obtained?

Renewable resource are those resources which can be obtained again & again with their utilisation as the time goes by. Like water, we are utilising water for various purposes, but still it get replenished from day to day by means of rainfall. Other examples can be air, forests, wind etc. Majorly we are getting this renewable resource from mother nature. Non renewable resources are those which will get exhausted by their continuous use by the human being. Like petrol, we are already running sort of these resource because it cannot be renewed again & again. It take a very long time to replenish these resources. Mother nature is also the source of all such nonrenewable resources.

How do you distinguish between nonrenewable and renewable energy?

Renewable means that those resources will be replaced when they are used - either they grow back, like trees, or they are produced constantly, like sunlight. Nonrenewable means that once you use them, they are used, and when you use everything, there will be no more. Resources like coal and oil are nonrenewable because it takes so long to make more (by pressure deep inside the ground for millions of years) that once we use them, no more will be made during our lives. A: Renewable: Renewable energy-or resources-are replenished onced they have been removed and used. They will either grow back, or keep doing what they are doing. Meaning that they are always being produced. Non-renewable: Nonrenewable energy-or resources-are not replenished once they have been removed, taken away, and used. Once it is gone, it will never come back.
