Trichinosis is a parasitic infection caused by roundworms called Trichinella. It is typically contracted by consuming undercooked meat, particularly pork, that contains the larvae of the parasite. Symptoms can include abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, muscle pain, and swelling around the eyes.
The adult trichina lives in the intestinal lining of such meat-eating animals as swine, bears, walrus, and rodents. After mating, the male worm dies while the female goes on to produce the offspring.
Ringworm infection is caused by a Tinea fungus. There is no vaccination because it a skin disease, not a blood-borne disease.
