A "Mormon" is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There are over 14 million Mormons around the world. Some of the more famous Mormons today include Mitt Romney (US Presidential Candidate), Brandon Flowers (lead singer in the rock band The Killers), Steve Young (former NFL Quarterback), David Archuletta (American Idol star), Donny and Marie Osmond (singers) and Gladys Knight (singer).

What words did the book of Mormon contribute to the English language?

Most of the unique words in the Book of Mormon are proper names. These words are not in common use in the English language, aside from a few cities and towns which were founded by Mormons and given these names. For example: Nephi, Lehi, Cumorah, Manti, or Moroni. The word "Mormon" comes from the Book of Mormon, and is probably the most used unique Book of Mormon word in the English language. Another unique word in the Book of Mormon is 'Deseret' which means honeybee. The word Deseret is often used in businesses or organizations owned by Mormons or the Mormon church - for example, Deseret Book, Deseret Industries, Deseret Ranch, and Deseret Transportation.

Morman population in US?

As of January 2010, there were 6,058,907 baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) in the United States. This means that approximately 2% of Americans are Mormons. The concentration of Mormons is much higher in the western US than in the east. For example, in Utah, about 60% of the population is Mormon. Arizona is 6% Mormon, Washington state is 4% Mormon, and Wyoming is 11% Mormon. Compare these numbers to east coast states, such as New Jersey (0.4% Mormon), New Hampshire (0.6% Mormon) and Alabama (0.7% Mormon).

What are Mormon group called?

"Mormon" is a nickname for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I'm not sure what you mean by a Mormon group... A Mormon congregation is called a 'ward' or 'branch' (depending on it's size). Within wards and branches are many groups... For example, Relief Society is a women's group. Mutual or Young Men/Young Women is a group for teens.

What does it mean to give up most of your religion?

To me it means that you do not practice all of your religion, but still claim that it is your religion. For example, if you are a mormon, but you drink coffee and alcohol and do not pay tithing, but still tell people that you are a Mormon and you pray, you have given up most of your religion.

Who was Mormon's grandpa?

The Book of Mormon does not say who the prophet Mormon's grandfather was. He does say that his father was also named Mormon, but we don't know much else about his family.

Where did the term jack Mormon come from?

'Jack Mormon' is a slang term used in Mormon culture originally to describe a friend of the LDS Church* who was not a member. Over time, the term came to be applied to those who are members of the church but do not follow the tenets or lifestyle of the faith. For example, a Mormon who drinks alcohol and coffee but still attends church might be a Jack Mormon. So might an individual who believes in the faith, but has stopped attending meetings. The term has fallen into disuse in recent years, and such individuals are now commonly described as "less active" or "inactive" Saints. * The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, often nicknamed the Mormon church.
