A refrain is a few lines or a stanza that is repeated in a poem (or song) at regular intervals.

An example could be:

Old McDonald had a farm,

eeya eeya o

and in his farm he had a chick

eeya eeya o

and a chick chick here and a chick chick there

and a chick chick everywhere

eeya eeya o

So in this poem/song eeya eeya o can be said to be a refrain.
