ragnell and falchion are not even in the same game. ragnell is in fire emblem PoR and RD. Wii and Gamecube. Falchion is in the ds game, SD. but ragnell is one of the best swords but Ike is the only one who can use it. it is the only sword you can use on the Black Knight. Falchion only Marth can use on the ds game shadow dragon.
From what I have learned there are five basic types. These are the Broadsword, Scimitar, Longsword, Greatsword, and Falchion Sword. If you want to learn more check the site below.
A search online for Historical European Martial Arts in Liverpool shows that there is a chapter of the "European Historical Combat Guild", which covers Longsword, Sword and Buckler, Messer, Falchion, Arming Sword and all the usual sword skills covered in H.E.M.A (as well as non-sword skills such as unarmed, dagger, polearms, etc). More thorough research will probably find other organisations offering such real swordfighting training in the Liverpool area too.
Sword, Armyng sword, (Arming sword), grete sword (grete, meaning great, ie, big), Fawchoun. (Falchion, curving sword), Tuck (Estoc, a thrusting sword). The word sword comes from the Old English sweord, cognate to swert, Old Norse sverð, from a Proto-Indo-European root *swer- "to wound, to cut". several other names could be used. but generally just "sword" on its own.
It's really a matter of personal opinion, but I like the Macleod Claymore because of length. It is heavy, so it makes for a good upper body workout.Alternate answer:there is no "best" sword. every sword design is a compromise. A renaissance era Rapier is excellent at thrusting stabbing attacks, but fragile and easily broken. a two-handed sword is able to cleave through things with terrifying power, but is heavy, tiring and bulky, a medieval longsword, or falchion likewise have advantages and disadvantages.Furthermore, even with general types, an individual sword might feel fantastic, balanced with poise, and another might feel dead, blade-heavy and uncomfortable. So the answer to what is best, is "what you like the most" - and that might be completely different to what someone else might think, on given the exact same sword.
Some names of medieval swords are Falchion, Broad, Great, Long, and Scimitar swords.

Machetes weren't used in medival times. They really didn't make an appearance until the early 1700s and derived from a cutlass. Primarily they were (and are) used as an agricultural tool in tropical and subtropical areas; though a form of martial discipline known as 'machete fencing' did make an appearance in Cuba and they were used to a gruesome extent in Ghana and other civil disputes throughout Africa. The medival weapon you are probably thinking of is a falchion. It was used in the 13th century and was very similar to a machete - being a short sword that widened at the point and had a blunt back edge. The falchion typically had a guard however (as most bladed weapons intended for fighting do) whereas machetes typically do not.
