A fan filter unit is basically a ventilation unit with a high efficiency HEPA/ULPA filter.
A fan filter unit provides a localized particle free environment where needed. Appropiate to increase the concrete areas inside a clean room. When installed inside vinyl transparent curtains, it divides and insulates the working area of the external pollution.
Airtecnics manufacture a wide range of fan filter units (Dif-vent, Airbox IDA ...) compliance any required specification in any project.
a/c filter with an arrow, is is placed in the unit with the arrow pointing toward the a/c fan??

More importantly, why is the unit freezing? There are several reasons that can cause this. Most common are dirty filter or evaporator coil that the filter protects. It can also be lack of air flow across the evaporator coil due to a bad fan motor or broken fan belt if so equipped. Last reason might be the unit is low on refrigerant which would mean that you have a leak somewhere.
the indoor unit will freeze when there is low air flow due to a dirty filter, dirty coil, fan not spinning, or the a/c unit could be low on refrigerant charge.
As far as I know there is a filter on the grille inside the box where the air con blower fan is located, on the passenger seat side, the whole unit is below the dash. If you are not familiar with this unit then you probably need a diagram, or take your time to do this slowly. The filter may be washed in mild soap water.

Either mounted to the fan or in the electrical compartment on the outdoor unit.
The cause of you AC freezing up is not enough air flow over the coils. Iam not sure if you are tlaking about a window air conditioning unit or an outdoor unit. If it is a window unit your filter is plugged or there is something blocking the intake, this could be inside or outside. If it is an outdoor unit then your compressor fan may not be working, the unit may be sized too large or once again your filter needs changing or something is blocking the intake.
The fan must be a two speed fan, otherwise it will burn out faster. 2 speed fans are used especially when you have a HEPA filter in the system for air filtration.
Air conditioners, whether a window unit or a central unit, MUST have a filter. Otherwise, dust, lint, dirt, pet hair, etc. will clog up the cooling coils. The cooling coils are damp, and the dust and dirt, etc. will stick to them, which will result in the fan not being able to blow air through the unit. This will very quickly result in a unit that is damaged beyond repair.
