Flash floods are sudden and rapid flooding caused by intense rainfall within a short period, often within a few hours. The water rises quickly due to the large volume of rainwater overwhelming drainage systems and natural watercourses. Flash floods can be particularly dangerous as they give little time for people to evacuate or prepare.
